Ladybug v. ‘t Jasperspad
DPCNA Certified: *pending* Registered with: LOSH 1111746 / DPCNA130017 Born: 06-April-2012 Parents: Unique Tjiekie V 't Jasperspad X Bink V 't. Arret Health: Eyes: CERF pending; Elbows: OFA pending, Hips: OFA pending Height at withers: 21.5 inches Weight: 42.2 pounds Exterior: Very Good Use: Practical upland & grasshopper hunting, bikejoring & extreme cuddling Some things are just meant to be. Even though my wife had picked Lady out at day ten while visiting friends in Belgium the timing wasn’t right for us to get a pup from the v. ‘t Jasperspad 2012 litter. As luck would have it, Lady was exported to the U.S. We almost got a female pup from Rainshadow’s 2012 litter, but our move to Spokane put a damper on puppy time. Then as luck would have it, Lady’s family had a game changing situation and she needed a new home. Originally, we took Lady in as a foster on behalf of the DPCNA, right smack dab in the middle of our relocation. Much to our surprise, she immediately fit into our existing dog clan and timing be damned, we began making serious considerations to end our foster care and just keep her. Lady is very intelligent and a very fast learner as well as being very athletic and the faster runner of all of our dogs. Her hunting experience is very limited thus far, but what she demonstrates in training situations is very favorable. She is cooperative, and sticks a point like a thrown javelin at the terminus of its flight. The v. ‘t Arret line is renowned for its hunting prowess, and Ali’s v. ‘t Jasperspad line is known to produce great hunters as well as fantastic show ring results. Moreover her Drents are among the sweetest and most affectionate Drents you can find. Typically she averages a 2:1 ratio comparing her distance traveled to mine respectively and she ranges consistently between 60 and 80 yards. As she continues to mature I expect this to grow slightly. |
Paxson the Gloucester
DPCNA Certified: 10 Feb 2009 Registered with: NHSB 2612263 / DPCNA080001 Born: 09-June-2006 Parents: Nadezja the Gloucester X Arko the Gloucester Health: Eyes: CERF Normal; Elbows: OFA Normal, Hips: OFA A2/Good Height at withers: 25.4 inches Weight: 71.2 pounds Exterior: Very Good (as confirmed by achieving Dutch Conformation show-ring results) Use: Practical upland & waterfowl hunting, agility, ski & bikejoring Paxson has been “a good boy” since day one. He house trained in about two weeks by learning to ring a bell attached to the back door. Around the house he is sweet, clam, and pleasant. He excelled at obedience training and enjoyed his time learning agility, even though he was more of a run-away locomotive than agility champion. Paxson was shown on a few occasions while we lived in the Netherlands, and meets Dutch breeding qualifications in conformation and temperament attributes. Naturally he meets all DPCNA stringent breeding requirements; health, temperament & conformation. As a hunter, all of his short comings in the field can be attributed to my poor bird dog training - so much for knowing better than all the experts! Pax was my first bird dog from a pup. Paxson behaves and looks like his father, Arco, a Dutch Grand Champion in both the field and show ring. When hunted alone, Pax works and points with an intensity seldom seen in Drents. He will swim to retrieve birds and waterfowl, and has never exhibited gun shyness. I use a GPS while hunting to collect data and track the dogs, for even dogs of Paxson's size can be lost in thick brush in tall reeds. Typically he averages a 2:1 ratio comparing his distance traveled to mine respectively. He ranges consistently between 60 and 80 yards, and in appropriate cover will search out to 120 yards. |
What you can expect from this litter: Pups from this litter can be expected to have a high level of intelligence and a strong desire to please you. Both parents have good noses for finding game, and a strong instinct to point; range should be short to medium casting between 60 and 80 yards or so. You should expect very typical Drent “pillar” behaviors; highly effective hunters, barking when strangers visit and being first rate family companions. Both of these Drents are extremely biddable with hallmark cooperative personalities, and we so expect the pups to have a strong desire to please their boss. Physical and emotional maturity of the breed is typically slow and nothing we have experienced here suggests differently. When training, low pressure methods of conditioning should be employed with all Drents to achieve the best results for you and your family. It is fair to have very high expectations for what these pups may achieve, however, those interested in big results from very young dogs need to either adjust expectations from the outset or look elsewhere (read: different breed all together). Having realistic expectations for what a pup is ready for is important, and having patience will pay big dividends to those willing to work with these pups. Without question, you will be richly rewarded with a true canine companion. As with keeping a Drent, having a sense of humor is handy to have on hand, even though both are polite and well behaved, they are after all Drents. The CoI for this planned litter is considered to be ideal, and should be good for throwing very lovely pups in conformation, temperament and health. Additionally, both parents have their AKC Good Canine Citizen certification.
Both parents are athletic fit Drents able and willing hike and hunt as long as your own legs can hold out. We also use them in bikejoring, canicross, and hopefully soon, skijoring. Paxson has participated in agility and had a ball with it.
Pedigrees and more information available upon request. We are excited and hope you are too
