The TGK Way
We specialize in training gundogs for the foot-hunting wing shooter by training hunting partners together, dog and human, building highly functional Teams. In short, our goal is to bring out all of the dogs natural ability while simultaneously building a stronger partnership between handler and dog.
Through the simple low pressure method we employ, utilizing structure over pressure and force. This encourages cooperation and expediates a clear line of communication between handler and dog, in doing so we are able to get the dog to demonstrate an understanding of stop to flush, steady to wing, steady to shot, steady to release and honoring a dog on point with an absolute minimal amount of pressure unlike many other trainers. With our method, the dogs learn what works (being steady) and they are given the opportunity to learn what does not (roading in on birds) without harsh corrections. Additionally, we train like we hunt, and hunt like we train so our method is free of gimmicky and/or extraneous equipment, and is virtually silent, no "whoa" here, as the dog is taught how to manage birds versus act as a remote controlled car.
We specialize in One-on-One training sessions for handers wanting to learn how to hunt with a high performance gun dog:
- Field Basics: Intro to birds and gunfire, Intro to water/swimming (season permitting), how to move and handle your dog, as well as, the critical recall.
- Novice Skill Building: Focused on handling & bird work: Creating Steadiness, Building the Search Pattern, Starting the Retrieve.
- Intermediate Skill Building: Further refining of handler skills, dry-land retrieves, adding water retrieves. Intro to co-operatively hunt with other handlers and dogs.
- Advanced Skills: Dialing in co-operative hunting with other hunters and dogs, pack hunting, water searches and retrieves.
*Additionally we can help you with your NAVHDA NA, UPT, and UT and/or AKC JH, SH, MH journey. Using our constructive method we will help you to build a stronger and more effective Team with your dog.
*We do not do "Board and Train" scenarios as this eliminates half of our training equation: you, the handler/hunter
*We can start with your young puppy, as early as 5 to 6 months of age, we can also work with your older dog (that someone else messed up in many cases as well).
